Recipient of ULRI's Discoveries In Safety Grant Program

Principal Investigator’s post on LinkedIn:
I am very grateful to UL Research Institutes and Fire Safety Research Institute for their continued commitment to safety science. I am honoured to be a recipient of 2024 Discoveries In Safety Grant Program which will help further research in “Investigation of toxic chemicals transfer through clothing layers of fire suits”. The research team at Ulster University, comprised of Ali Nadjai, Jianping Zhang, Hamed Rasouli Sadabad, and led by Svetlana Tretsiakova aims to improve our understanding of the nature and quantities of toxic products of combustion and their ability to permeate and get transferred through layers of fire suits, thus negatively impacting health of first responders. The project has a paramount importance for firefighters, manufacturers of personal protective equipment and clothing, regulators, and health and safety specialists who seek robust, long-term solutions to the problem of repeated exposure to toxic combustion products. Together we can drive real change and provide invaluable impact.
